Don’t Blink

Crusted lids open upon entering a bright teaming room,

Crying out with an ear piercing wail,

Blink,

Playing building blocks with a new friend you made in kindergarten,

Blink,

Jumping off your bike mid stride to put on the baseball mitt as you arrive at the diamond,

Blink,

Walking nervously through the new high school trying to find the first class,

Blink,

Hanging out in the park with a group of friends playing hacky sack,

Blink,

Standing proud on stage as you receive your diploma, parents tearing with a gleaming smile,

Blink,

Party at the dorm, meet the girl of your dreams, heart racing as you embrace,

Blink,

Your newborn baby girl resting her beautiful eyes as she lays peacefully in her crib,

Blink,

Your baby girl graduates, a tear drips down your eye as you smile while fighting the frown,

Blink,

40 flamingos line the lawn as your wife, daughter and her family sing happy birthday,

Blink,

Touch noses with a dolphin while at the beach of Bermuda,

Blink,

Heart skips a beat as you see your grandson score in overtime at your local arena,

Blink,

Break down in tears as you hear your 3 year old great grandson say “I love you”,

Blink,

Stare at the moon while catching some fresh air from the extended care home,

Blink,

Tell jokes and then gasp for air after laughter as the family has gathered around the hospital room bed,

Blink,

“I love you” says your heart broken wife, as your family breaks down in tears.

Fighting the inevitable, eyes close.
